Multi-media filters utilize two or more filter media to effectively remove suspended impurities and clarify water by passing high-turbidity water through a certain thickness of granular or non-granular material under a certain pressure. Commonly used filter media include quartz sand, anthracite, and manganese sand. They are mainly used for water treatment, turbidity removal, water softening, and pre-treatment for pure water production. The effluent turbidity can reach below 3 NTU.
1. Multi-media filters are widely used in water treatment processes and can be used independently, but are mostly used as pre-filters for advanced water treatment (ion exchange resins, electrodialysis, reverse osmosis).
2. Multi-media filters are commonly used pre-treatment devices for advanced water purification and can be filled with different filter media according to process requirements.
3. Multi-media filters can be made of fiberglass, A3 steel with anti-corrosion or rubber lining, or all stainless steel. Operation methods include fully automatic and manual. Automatic control uses imported American automatic controllers and pneumatic/hydraulic valves, making operation simple and easy to maintain. They are widely used in pre-treatment devices for water treatment processes in various industries.
4. The filter materials of multi-media filters (including dual-media filters) should have sufficient chemical stability. The relative density and particle size of each medium should have certain differences. For dual-layer filter media composed of anthracite and quartz sand, the anthracite has a relative density of 1.4-1.6 and a particle size of 0.8-1.8 mm, while the quartz sand has a relative density of 2.6-2.65 and a particle size of 0.5-1.2 mm; for three-layer filter media, in addition to the above two filter media, heavy minerals such as manganese sand and magnetite can also be used, with a relative density of 4.7-5.0 and a particle size of 0.5-4 mm.
